MR. J’S MEDIA PRODUCTIONS JOINS WITH AD VETERAN BARRY SHAPIRO TO BRING EXPANDED SERVICES TO IRC CUSTOMERS
FORMER CREATIVE DIRECTOR BRINGS VAST EXPERIENCE TO HIGHLY REGARDED LOCAL PRODUCTION HOUSE.
Mr. J’s Media Productions, owned by husband and wife team Jemal and Simmone Hayes, has grown over the last few years into a full service media and production company offering photographic, video, editing and duplication services to the Vero Beach area. Now they are expanding their capabilities by partnering with veteran New York advertising creative Barry Shapiro, the former owner of Lighthouse Art and Framing.
Shapiro, a graduate of Pratt Institute, began his career as an illustrator and designer but segued into the film industry in the late 80’s, eventually forming his own award winning production company. Over a 35 year span he has worked as an art director, copywriter, producer and has directed hundreds of TV commercials, corporate and marketing videos, television shows and public service announcements. He left advertising and New York after 9-11, eventually settling in Sebastian with his wife Patricia. He was the Marketing Director for 4 years at Pathfinder Business Strategies before leaving to purchase Lighthouse Art and Framing in Downtown Vero Beach. He closed the popular art center in March of 2015.
Jemal Hayes is a familiar presence in the area having grown up in Vero Beach. From early beginnings as a DJ and doing wedding photography and videos he has expanded his range and become what Shapiro calls “one of the finest video editors in the area.”
Their collaborations started 2 years ago when Shapiro was asked to create a promotional video for The Source, a local charity. “I immediately thought of working with Jemal and we hit it off right away” says Shapiro. “I believe that video is a collaborative medium and I like working with someone who has great ideas but also understands the clients concerns. Jemal seems laid back but he’s really on top of everything.”
Their next joint project was a music video for the internationally renowned Haitian folk singer Emeline Michelle which they shot in the Little Haiti section of Miami. Barry co-directed with his longtime associate, the French film director Mariette Monpierre.
More recently Jemal and Barry created the promotional video for the Hope For Families Center 25th Annual Dinner and Fund Raiser. They subsequently recut that footage into a shorter marketing video the charity hopes to use for future fund raising.
